Job Description

As a key member of our construction division, the Estimator plays a vital role in preparing estimates from start to finish. This includes establishing estimating strategies, handling all aspects of the estimating process, and collaborating with team members and other divisions to enhance overall company performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform quantity take-offs and organization
  • Provide conceptual estimating, constructability analysis, and preconstruction support
  • Prepare quotes for individual and team projects
  • Analyze and communicate pricing trends and technology updates with staff and customers
  • Implement corrective actions if projects deviate from goals
  • Manage pricing databases to maintain historical and current cost information
  • Track estimates and contracts for monthly reporting
  • Identify and review estimating trends with estimating and operations leaders

Customer Relations:

  • Negotiate preferred terms with customers while fostering long-term relationships
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key contacts in existing and potential customers
  • Present bid packages and communicate negotiation outcomes to internal teams with clear expectations
  • Engage in contract negotiations within the company's margin and contractual objectives
  • Provide ongoing project management support to clients after sales or contract signings

Project Estimating and Pricing:

  • Qualify new business to ensure resources are allocated to targeted opportunities
  • Monitor market trends on raw materials and adjust pricing as needed
  • Refine the project cost estimating process for accuracy and efficiency
  • Incorporate trade divisions' input on complex projects
  • Identify ways to improve project margins without compromising safety, quality, or timeliness
  • Price bids according to company goals, policies, and strategies

Department Leadership:

  • Support the maintenance of departmental metrics, including measures of success
  • Maintain regular communication with the estimating team to ensure clarity on projects and goals
  • Provide periodic projections as required
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on matters like cost vs. estimates, subcontractor quality, and workload demands

Subcontractor Development:

  • Build and maintain relationships with a network of subcontractors to supplement divisional trades
  • Seek out and establish relationships with high-quality subcontractors

Talent and Employee Engagement:

  • Act as an ambassador for the company, promoting its values in business development, recruiting, and market engagement

Education & Experience:

  • Technical degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
  • Preferably 3+ years of management experience
  • Experience with contracts up to $30MM and design-build estimating is preferred
  • CAD experience is a plus
