Job Summary
The Desktop Support Technician (Technical Assistant III) plays a critical role in configuring, maintaining, and supporting computer systems operated by Administration & Finance (A&F) Information Technology clients. These systems provide mission-critical services, including file and print sharing, group collaboration, messaging, and calendaring. The successful candidate will recommend new technologies, participate in implementation and special projects, and ensure the security and performance of these systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade mission-critical PC and MAC workstations and peripherals.
- Install workstation peripherals and set up software and operating systems to enable workstations to connect to the University network and computing resources.
- Perform System Imaging, data recovery, and workstation lifecycle maintenance.
- Detect and troubleshoot connectivity problems, including network operating systems, applications, servers, printers, workstations, and cabling.
- Monitor and optimize Workstation performance.
- Stay current with information security practices, emerging network standards, server operating systems, PC and MAC operating systems, software applications, hardware platforms, and Industry certifications.
- Making software, hardware, and service recommendations to campus clients requires staying abreast of current technology trends and assessing their appropriateness to the campus. Participates in planning, installation, and expansion of local area network systems, equipment, and services.
- Accurately create and document procedures.
- Document and record work performed.
- May be required to travel to other campuses to support equipment as needed.
Requirements
- One year of relevant experience.
- An associate degree or higher can substitute for the relevant experience.
- Experience working with multiple computer systems in a networked client/server environment. Must have working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, shared resource management in a networked environment, and security management.
- Experience in meeting complex production-oriented environments' demands where timeliness and availability of information are critical.
- Hands-on experience must include installing and maintaining enterprise-class server operating systems, setting up and maintaining network client software and operating systems, software and hardware problem resolution.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially for consulting and accurately communicating technical matters to non-technical individuals. Ability to converse well in person and over the phone.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Linux, DameWare Utilities, Symantec Ghost Enterprise, and data communications.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow detailed instructions, and make independent judgments, along with strong technical analytical abilities.
- Ability to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background check.
Work Schedule and Salary
Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.
$65,000 - $85,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
USA/MTA Non-Exempt Grade 15.
