Job Overview

An Academic Radiation Physicist plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of care in the use of radiation producing sources and imaging equipment, while engaging in academic activity by supporting clinical research protocols and participating in teaching activities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct all aspects of radiation oncology physics responsibilities, including equipment calibration and commissioning, clinical support, and maintenance of quality assurance for equipment and treatment delivery.
  • Provide radiation services of the highest standard of professionalism and in accordance with established benchmarks for quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Chief of Physics and local hospital leadership to develop clinical protocols and enroll patients in clinical trials.
  • Participate in teaching activities for medical and physics residents, dosimetrist and therapist students, and targeted lectures to attending physicians in your area of expertise.
  • Recruit faculty, fellows, and staff to support the educational mission of Rutgers Cancer Institute.
Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in medical physics, physics, or related fields is preferred.
  • Board certification in medical physics or equivalent field with Part 1 of ABR exam completed.
  • Successful clinical experience within an academic medical center.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical experience with conventional radiotherapy, 3-D and IMRT treatment planning, high and low dose rate brachytherapy.
  • Knowledge of Linac operations and functions, and various special procedures.
  • Completed a CAMPEP accredited residency program.
