Your Role as a Behavior Support Specialist

You will play an essential role as part of a multidisciplinary team in delivering holistic guidance and support. As a Behavior Support Specialist, your primary responsibilities include:

  • Working one on one with an assigned student to meet goals set forth in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Providing accommodations and modifications as necessary
  • Assisting in the development and modification of behavior support plans
  • Implementing behavior support plans; recording and tracking data on behaviors, progress toward goals, and incidents
  • Utilizing behavior support and intervention strategies
  • Implementing de-escalation techniques, crisis management, and physical restraint if necessary to maintain the safety of students and staff
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive environment that encourages the development of appropriate social and behavioral skills
  • Supervising students and ensuring they are always monitored, including to and from appropriate school locations
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to ensure consistent implementation of behavior support plans
Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful as a Behavior Support Specialist, you should have:

  • A high school diploma
  • Experience working in an educational setting implementing behavioral interventions for students with intensive behavioral needs (preferred)
