Data Security Analyst – Cybersecurity Operations

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Security Analyst to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a key member of our cybersecurity team, you will be responsible for enhancing the security posture of our organization by safeguarding online activities of students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Threat Detection and Response: Develop and implement processes and technologies to boost the operational security's effectiveness, efficiency, and response time.
  • Incident Management: Consistently deliver operational security services within established timeframes.
  • Technical Security Consulting: Provide expert technical security consulting and support across the organization, collaborating with both central IT Services and departmental IT organizations.
  • Security Risk Management: Mitigate technical security risks during the development and implementation of new information systems as part of the Information Security Services Team.
  • Security Architecture: Advise IT Services leadership on information security architecture, including emerging technologies, processes, policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
Requirements
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree and three (3) years professional experience OR a combination of education and experience totaling seven (7) years from which comparable knowledge and abilities are acquired.
  • Experience: Working knowledge and experience with information security technologies, implementations, principles, and practices.
  • Skills: Experience in information security incident response and analysis, ability to analyze business requirements, assess the value of information technologies, and design information systems to meet business needs.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of security technologies including intrusion detection/prevention systems, firewalls, VPNs, vulnerability scanning, and security information and event management (SIEM) systems.
  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated customer service experience, ability to work independently and as a member of a team, excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Experience implementing operational information security procedures and technical training materials.
  • Skills: Demonstrated experience with working within formal project management frameworks, experience with log SIEM applications, to include developing searches, reports, and other automated routines.
  • Knowledge: Experience with security reviews of firewall, file system, and other forms of access control lists, experience with digital forensics software and processes.
  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize multiple tasks, projects, or assignments, knowledge of both Windows and Linux operating systems.
