Job Summary:

The Rehabilitation Aide plays a vital role in the rehabilitation therapy team at Westchester Medical Center. This position is responsible for assisting therapists in providing patients with prescribed exercise and ambulation programs, as well as assisting patients in learning and following through with their Activities of Daily Living program.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the therapy team in providing patients with prescribed exercise and ambulation programs;
  • Assist patients in learning and following through with their Activities of Daily Living program;
  • Set up exercise equipment and assist patients in progressing through required exercises;
  • Confer regularly with therapists on assignments, patient progress, and other relevant matters;
  • Attend staff meetings as required;
  • Maintain the supply area and advise professional staff of supply shortages for reordering;
  • Assist therapists in providing non-skilled services, including equipment setup, assessment, and patient preparation;
  • Recognize and communicate changes in patient status in a timely fashion and react appropriately to impending emergencies;
  • Maintain a sanitary treatment environment, including equipment cleanliness, linen changing, and proper hand-washing techniques;
  • Refill necessary supplies in a timely fashion and assist with ordering and tracking supplies in coordination with program management;
  • Assist with departmental clerical functions, including answering phones, scheduling, communication boards, mail, faxing, copying, and data entry;
  • Transport patients when necessary and assist patients on and off equipment as needed;
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment setup and basic functions, including lifts, adaptive equipment, and exercise equipment;
  • Perform other related duties as directed or required.
Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:
  • 1 year of experience in a customer service setting, required;
  • Additional experience working in the rehabilitation therapy environment, preferred.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required;
  • 3 years of experience in a rehabilitation therapy setting may be used in lieu of a High School Diploma.
Licenses / Certifications: N/A

Other:
  • Ability to work effectively with patients requiring therapeutic instruction and to understand and implement practical demonstrations;
  • Good judgment, resourcefulness, initiative, emotional maturity, and physical condition commensurate with the requirements of the position.
