Job Summary

The Library Director is responsible for overseeing the operations of the library system, ensuring the fulfillment of its mission, and providing excellent service to the community. This role requires strong leadership and management skills, as well as the ability to develop and implement strategic plans, manage budgets, and supervise a team of librarians and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan that reflects the County's vision and goals
  • Manage the library's budget, personnel, facilities, technology, and customer service
  • Oversee the selection, development, and maintenance of library collections, including digital collections
  • Assess and recommend technology and services to improve library effectiveness
  • Recommend and administer library policies, ensuring compliance with state, county, and funder requirements
  • Strategize and implement tactics to expand Friends of the Library and promote library services
Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Five or more years of experience in public library administration with a record of outstanding achievement
  • Three years of high-level supervisory and administrative experience in a large complex organization
  • Evidence of leadership and engagement with state and/or national library organizations
