Job Summary

The Exploratorium is seeking a dynamic and engaging Visitor Engagement Facilitator to join our team. As a key member of our visitor experience team, you will play a critical role in creating exceptional experiences for our visitors of all ages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate and facilitate visitor engagement throughout the museum, providing a warm and welcoming experience for all guests.
  • Develop and deliver engaging educational programs and activities that promote informal science and art experiences.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute field trip programs and other initiatives that strengthen connections between students, teachers, and the museum.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, responding to visitor inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with daily operations, including preparing the museum for opening, maintaining appearance, and reporting any issues to technical staff.
  • Stay knowledgeable about the museum's exhibits, programs, and special events, effectively communicating this information to guests in a dynamic and engaging environment.
  • Handle sales, service, and payments for ticketing, retail, and membership, as well as various museum programs and third-party products.
  • Answer visitor inquiries by phone, electronically, and in person, troubleshooting technical issues and performing routine office tasks as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments to ensure a safe and visitor-ready environment, assisting during emergency procedures as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development, including visitor service, business operations, and inquiry-based practices.
Requirements
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday hours, as well as occasional extended shifts, are required.
  • Ability to learn exhibits and their scientific principles, communicating this information to visitors in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service, with a focus on meeting and exceeding visitor expectations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, interacting with a diverse range of visitors, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Punctuality, neatness, and attention to detail are essential, as is excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercising good judgment and initiative in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Experience in visitor service, cashiering, and/or retail is desirable.
  • Background in informal education or visitor-focused roles is an asset.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this role include standing and walking for extended periods, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and bending, kneeling, and reaching.
