Aircraft Mechanic II (B) Job Description

Varstaff is currently seeking a skilled Aircraft Mechanic II (B) to join our team at an aerospace company in Addison, Texas.

Job Summary

The Aircraft Mechanic II (B) is responsible for maintaining and repairing aircraft components, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. Under limited supervision, the successful candidate will service, repair, and modify aircraft airframe, engine, components, and sub-systems in accordance with company standards and applicable Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and modifies aircraft structures, components, and appliances, such as wings, fuselage, and functional components, with minimal supervision.
  2. Responsible for reading and interpreting Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Technical Manuals, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, local directives, and other specifications to determine Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved maintenance requirements, methods, and procedures.
  3. Accountable for examining engines for component damage and security, heat damage, and fluid leaks.
  4. Inspects turbine blades to detect Foreign Object Damage (FOD) or material wear or failure through visual and borescope.
  5. Conducts testing of engine operation to locate the source of malfunction and performs operational checks.
  6. Replaces worn, damaged, and failed components, such as fuel controllers, starter/generators, etc.
  7. Responsible for removing engines from aircraft, disassembling, Quick Engine Change (QEC) components, and inspecting parts for wear, warping, or other defects. Repairs/replaces parts as required, reassembles, and reinstalls engines.
  8. Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including but not limited to, changing and/or inspecting fuel and oil filters, cleaning screens, aircraft lubrication, and wheel and tire maintenance. Charges and services Nicad batteries, aircraft, and engine compressor wash, cleaning, and servicing on-board water and sanitation systems. Mixes paint and applies for touch-up of aircraft and components.
  9. Accountable for maintaining aircraft discrepancy books, required Army forms, completes (MISA), and Airframe and Engine forms/logbooks as well as all required FAA documentation.
  10. Responsible for completing all reports, forms, and checklists as required, in accordance with company, government, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
  11. Complies with all safety requirements and uses all mandated safety equipment in accordance with company, government, and OSHA requirements.
  12. Perform routine service requirements on equipment.
  13. Assists coworkers and those in other departments to successfully perform job duties and functions when necessary.
  14. Certification for engine run is a pre-requisite for promotion to higher positions.
  15. Designation as Red X authority at management discretion.
  16. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in maintenance, modification, and repair of tactical aircraft systems of the type being serviced and their associated components is required.
  3. Must have technical knowledge to repair, maintain, modify, and overhaul various major aircraft operating systems.
  4. Airframe & Power Plant (A&P) certification is required for specific work requirements.
  5. Must have a valid state driver's license.
Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers.

Computer Skills

Internet software, E-mail, Microsoft office, and Management Information System for Aviation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

This position requires a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) license.

Work Environment
  • The noise level in the environment is usually loud.
  • Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to explosives and vibration.
  • Will be required to wear protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, and talk or hear.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand; walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear, and taste and smell.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
