Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Care Specialist to join our team at Cibola General Hospital. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a crucial role in preventing and treating lung diseases.

About the Role

The Respiratory Care Specialist will work in the adult critical care unit, general floors, emergency room, and pulmonary function laboratory. You will assist with seriously ill patients in Radiology, CT scan, and ambulance transports, while administering physicians' prescriptions for therapy with a working knowledge of therapy indications, contraindications, and complications of various types of therapy.

Main Responsibilities
  • Administer physician's prescriptions for therapy with a thorough understanding of therapy indications, contraindications, and complications.
  • Maintain accurate records and charges for all therapy administered.
  • Relay pertinent information to physicians and nurses caring for patients.
  • Enforce safety rules and precautions in all departments and be familiar with hospital fire and disaster plans.
  • Set up monitors and regulate mechanical ventilators to breathe for patients who cannot do so on their own.
  • Deliver oxygen, humidification, nebulizers, aerosols, and CPT per physician orders and/or protocol.
  • Perform testing techniques in the pulmonary function laboratory.
  • Participate in CPR teams and assist in airway management and intubations.
  • Conduct stress testing, EKGs, EEGs, Holter monitoring, and draw blood gases as per department policy and procedure.
  • Provide patient and caregiver education, as well as continuing education.
  • Discuss therapy options with physicians for individual patients and provide required respiratory care with ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
  • Maintain respiratory care equipment to the required standard of function and cleanliness.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Associates Science Degree or 2-year AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • A national/international administered Respiratory Therapy exam.
  • Licensure by the New Mexico Occupational Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Two (2) years of post-graduate experience preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in critical care, pediatrics, or Emergency Room settings is desirable.
Estimated Salary Range

$65,000 - $90,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to perform simple manipulative skills frequently, hand-eye coordination skills, and prolonged standing, walking, and sitting. You will also be required to handle and lift supplies and equipment, work in a well-lighted and ventilated environment, and take precautions when using gases and oxygen.
