Radiology Technologist Job Description

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Radiology Technologist to join our team in South Elgin, Illinois.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Radiology Technologist to work in our diagnostic imaging department. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating x-ray equipment to produce high-quality radiographs of designated portions of the body as ordered by a physician.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of designated portions of the body as ordered by a physician
  • Accountable for the performance and documentation of all diagnostic procedures utilizing proper technical parameters to produce quality studies
  • Knowledgeable in the safe use, maneuverability, and operation of all general radiography, portable, and fluoro equipment
  • Proficient in the performance of general diagnostic procedures, including general fluoroscopy procedures if applicable
  • Adheres to infection prevention, isolation, and sterile techniques as it applies in patient handling and delivery of care
  • Adheres to ALARA principles in performance of exams to reduce exposure to self, the patient, and others
  • Utilizes proper patient identification to ensure the correct exam is performed on the correct patient at the correct time
  • Obtains and records pertinent patient history, explains the procedure to the patient in a manner to ensure understanding, and ensures patient comfort during the performance of the exam
  • Reviews radiographs to ensure optimum quality, reports environmental/equipment problems to appropriate resource personnel, and performs required computer functions for RIS/HIS systems
  • Labels all radiographs appropriately following department-established criteria and standards
  • Consistently maintains an attitude of professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration with co-workers, physicians, and internal customers/departments
  • Consistently provides positive interactions and a customer-first approach with patients and their families/caregivers and visitors
  • Participates in assessment of own learning needs and actively seeks opportunities for increased competency and growth
  • Attends in-services to ensure knowledge of current departmental and technical procedures, attends CPR classes to maintain re-certification, and maintains appropriate state license and national board certification
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and work area, ensures adequate inventory of supplies, and identifies supplies and equipment needs for procedures
  • Uses Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
  • IEMA Accreditation in Radiologic Technology
  • ARRT (RT) Certification or Certificate Eligible

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work weekends and holidays to accommodate patient care needs
  • Ability to work rotating shifts any day of the week
  • Ability to take call and arrive on site within one hour
  • May be exposed to radiation during procedures
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time or be required to lift and move patients
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, infectious disease, and required to participate in annual emergency drills
