Dietary Assistant

As a key member of the Knox Community Hospital team, the Dietary Aide plays a vital role in ensuring the nutritional needs of our patients are met. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
• Ensure accurate and timely meal delivery to patients
• Obtain items requested and allowed for meal service
• Verify freshness and quality of food items served to patients
• Manage patient nutrition orders appropriately
• Correctly edit diet orders as needed
• Consistently complete all follow-through with order processing
• Page Registered Dietitian for ASAP consultation or clarification needs
• Verify order changes with nursing if discrepancy is suspected
• Communicate special product needs and anticipated usage to staff
• Order and maintain nourishments
• Computer entries for nourishments and tube feedings are correct and complete
• Appropriately cancel and/or credit patient orders with detail
• Prepare menus for distribution
• Double-check menus with patient's diet
• Provide timely menus and support to outpatient areas
• Ensure alternative menu and write-ins are utilized appropriately
• Adhere to established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards
• Observe proper food preparation and handling techniques
• Attend mandatory hospital education annually
• Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures
• Attend department staff meetings
• Support and participate in common teamwork
• Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow team members
• Address conflict in a manner that supports team development
• Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling to meet departmental needs
• Participate in continuous quality improvement measures and actively participate in improvement initiatives
Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Certified Dietary Manager Certification is also preferred. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
