About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Agricultural Research Service in Las Cruces, NM. As a Research Scientist, you will play a critical role in conducting research on agroecosystem sustainability and resilience in the Southwestern US.

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a holistic understanding of production, societal, economic, and environmental tradeoffs associated with innovative management practices. You will be responsible for developing and testing systems-level hypotheses about the productivity, resource use, economics, or environmental impacts of agricultural/land use systems.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on agroecosystem sustainability and resilience in the Southwestern US, focusing on production, environmental, social, and economic impacts of alternative land management strategies.
  • Develop and test systems-level hypotheses about the productivity, resource use, economics, or environmental impacts of agricultural/land use systems.
  • Evaluate and interpret research results related to agricultural production systems or technologies.
  • Prepare reports of research results in the form of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals or presentations at scientific meetings.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Ph.D. in Ecology, Economics, Social Science, or a related field, with a strong background in analytical techniques such as life cycle analysis or other approaches.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, with expertise in rangelands or croplands, modeling and systems analysis approaches, and publishing original research as first author in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $120,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
