We are seeking a highly skilled Virtual Educational Sign Language Interpreter to join our team at VocoVision.

Job Overview

This is a full-time, work-from-home contract opportunity that requires a minimum of 1+ years of interpreter experience. The successful candidate will provide real-time interpretation services for students in California, working closely with teachers, special education staff, and parents to ensure accurate and effective interpretation.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), and have a strong understanding of Deaf culture. Experience interpreting in educational settings is preferred, as is familiarity with virtual learning environments.

Responsibilities
  • Interpretation Services: Provide high-quality interpretation of spoken language to ASL and vice versa during virtual classes, meetings, and educational activities.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, and parents to understand student needs and adapt interpretation accordingly.
  • Preparation: Review lesson plans and materials in advance to ensure accurate and effective interpretation.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for students' communication needs and promote an inclusive environment that fosters participation and engagement.
  • Documentation: Maintain records of interpreted sessions and communicate any issues or concerns regarding student comprehension or participation to appropriate staff.
Qualifications
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, Education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification: National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent credential is required. State certification or licensure as needed in California.
  • Experience: Previous experience interpreting in educational settings is preferred. Familiarity with virtual learning environments is a plus.
  • Skills: Proficient in ASL and possess strong understanding of Deaf culture. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a remote setting.
