Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Aid Specialist to join our team at Community HigherEd Institute. As a Financial Aid Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth delivery of student financial aid and maintaining accurate records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate the delivery of student financial aid and maintain accurate records.
  • Recommend, interpret, and update financial aid policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Prepare applications and proposals for federal, state, and local funds, and develop and implement budgetary controls for funds.
  • Coordinate financial aid operations with other departments, including Admissions and student records.
  • Research, analyze, and develop processes and procedures to increase operational efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with the Financial Aid office response to program reviews and audits.
  • Conduct need analysis and determine individual student eligibility for various aid programs.
  • Verify documents and maintain student-generated information used to determine eligibility for financial aid awards.
  • Maintain liaison with federal, state, county, and other agencies to answer questions, resolve problems, provide data, and interpret and apply changes in rules and regulations concerning financial aid.
  • Advise students regarding academic career objectives in relation to financial aid, and review student status to determine continuance or increase/decrease of aid.
  • Develop and present financial aid information as needed.
  • Manage student loan collection activities and develop and direct a loan default prevention program.
  • Prepare various financial aid program-related reports and correspondence as needed.
  • Serve on college committees as required or assigned.
  • Attend and participate in professional groups, seminars, and/or courses that provide Financial Aid staff development.
  • Interact in a positive manner with prospective, current, and former students, staff, and faculty.
  • Model the CARES philosophy (Courtesy, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Success).
  • Attend graduation ceremonies.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
  • Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Finance, Accounting, Banking, or related experience.
  • Financial Aid and/or Title IV experience a plus.
  • Above-average technical and computer skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft and Google Workspace Applications.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to build and foster relationships.
  • Must be organized, numbers-oriented, and have attention to detail.
