Respiratory Therapist Specialist

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering respiratory therapy procedures to examine, diagnose, and treat patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders.
The ideal candidate will assess patient condition and consult with physicians to determine appropriate treatment plans, and monitor patient progress following procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
The Respiratory Therapist will also document all patient care activities and ensure they comply with the appropriate quality of care standards and regulations of the department.
Responsibilities:
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health
- Administer physician-prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, PFTs, ABGs, and all mechanical ventilation.
- Perform evaluation procedures, both invasive and non-invasive, to determine respiratory care needs, and make appropriate recommendations based upon department protocols ultimately improving patient outcomes and facilitating patient discharge.
- Monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation including clinical assessment, routine rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostic testing to ensure the safety and appropriate care of patients.
- Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens for diagnosis. Measure patients' lung capacity to determine if there are any impairments.
- Offer diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on the analysis of the patient.
- Communicate with other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
- Assure smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory, or other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Proficiencies):
Professional competency in the science of Respiratory Care commensurate with the NBRC credential.
Required Experience, Education, Certification(s), License(s):
Graduate of a AMA-approved School of Respiratory Care.
Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support/BLS.
Associate's/2-year degree required.
Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (if Certified or not registered by the NBRC, must obtain NBRC registration within 2 years of hire).
Preferred Experience, Education, Degree, Certification(s), License(s):
ACLS and/or NALS preferred.
Prior experience preferred.
Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.
