Cellular Systems Test Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated Cellular Systems Test Engineer to join our Wireless Systems team at Tesla. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing best-in-class telematics solutions.

The role involves architecture, design, and validation of cellular (LTE and 5G) based solutions for telematics systems across Tesla vehicle platforms. This position requires working closely with cross-functional teams as well as external suppliers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of LTE/UMTS/CDMA/GSM and 3GPP protocols, particularly LTE/LTE Advanced features. Experience with 5G NR protocols is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Design end-to-end test plans, procedures, and scripts for Tesla's cellular protocol stack
  • Provide support to software development and manufacturing teams
  • Root-cause issues reported by other QA teams and customer feedback
  • Contribute to test automation frameworks and data analysis tools
  • Analyze telemetry data and identify fleet-wide issues and areas for improvement
  • Implement continuous improvements and best practices within the team, and larger organization

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering with a concentration in Wireless Communication, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of work experience in the cellular industry
  • Excellent understanding of LTE/UMTS/CDMA/GSM
  • Working knowledge of 3GPP protocols, particularly LTE/LTE Advanced features
  • Experience or knowledge in 5G NR protocols is a plus
  • Field trials/testing, IOT, IODT knowledge or work experience
  • Good understanding of networking concepts (Ethernet, TCP/IP, etc.)
  • Skilled at Perl/Python, Shell scripts. Proficient with cellular callboxes (R&S CMW 500, Anritsu, etc.) and building test automation frameworks around them

Expected Compensation:

$120,000 - $252,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
