Equipment Mechanic II

We are seeking a skilled Equipment Mechanic II to join our team at the City of Mesa, AZ. As an Equipment Mechanic II, you will perform skilled maintenance and repair work on heavy-duty equipment, including diesel-powered equipment. You will diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic systems, and perform major repairs on a wide range of vehicles, including heavy construction and refuse equipment. This role requires a high degree of technical knowledge and the ability to exercise independent judgment in determining the method of repair.
Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled maintenance and repair work on heavy-duty equipment, including diesel-powered equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Perform major repairs on a wide range of vehicles, including heavy construction and refuse equipment.
- Exercise independent judgment in determining the method of repair.
Requirements:
- Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to a minimum of five years' experience as a journey-level mechanic.
- Some experience in heavy-duty equipment maintenance or repair.
- A valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including shift work that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in the repair and maintenance of Heavy-Duty Trucks, Refuse Trucks, or Heavy-Duty Construction Equipment.
- Certification as an ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician.
