About the Position:

  • We are offering a competitive salary for this position, estimated to be around $85,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing and diabetes education, with at least two years of experience working in a clinical health setting.
  • This role requires the ability to travel to villages via small plane and work in sub-arctic conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive diabetes education and care to patients with Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and those at high risk of developing diabetes.
  • Order labs for patients according to hospital policies and document education in electronic health records.
  • Assist in the planning, coordinating, and providing of diabetes-related health promotion activities in the YK Delta Region.
  • Work closely with village clinic and hospital staff to promote diabetes standards of care and inform of new advances in diabetes care.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an NLN-approved institution.
  • Valid Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist credential.
  • Valid license in good standing in the State of Alaska as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
