Pharmacy Technician I/II Job Description

Duke University is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician I/II to join our team at the Lincoln Community Health Center Pharmacy location in Durham, North Carolina.

Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician I/II will assist pharmacists with various tasks, including medication preparation, distribution, and storage. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists with medication preparation, distribution, and storage
  • Restock automatic dispensing cabinets as needed
  • Answer and screen telephone calls and direct calls to appropriate personnel when needed
  • Handle medications in accordance with department, regulatory, and legal requirements
  • Collaborate with pharmacy team, insurance companies, and customers to resolve issues and ensure accuracy
  • Assist with basic clinical functions in support of the clinical pharmacist
  • Operate and maintain specialty machinery, equipment, devices, or software necessary for job functions
  • Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas
  • Complete and document all assigned safety and quality activities in compliance with department procedures
Requirements
  • Pharmacy Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program, or acceptance into pharmacy school, or high school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or healthcare-related experience
  • Pharmacy Tech II: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program, or acceptance into pharmacy school, or high school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or healthcare-related experience, and North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration, and Pharmacy Technician certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT)
