Medical Assistant I

The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. This role involves performing patient care and administrative duties, including venipuncture, EKGs, and clerical responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and families.
- Perform clerical duties, such as sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions.
- Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician.
- Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable.
- Provide set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques.
- Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, and sterilization processes.
- Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies and dispose of them appropriately.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, Op Reports, test results, and home care forms.
- May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with the Surgical Coordinator to verify times with patients.
- May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients, updating patient demographic and insurance information.
- High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
- Three to nine months of healthcare experience preferred.
