Job Summary

As a Public Health Nurse II, you will play a vital role in promoting and protecting the health of populations in Maine. This position requires a strong background in nursing, with a focus on public health principles and practices. You will work closely with internal and external partners to provide nursing services in community health programs, schools, conferences, events, and clinics.

Key Responsibilities

Apply the nursing process to individuals and families, including health assessment, nursing diagnoses, care plan development, implementation, evaluation, resource coordination, and/or referral(s) to meet demonstrated health care needs.

Observe the home environment, identify health problems or at-risk behavior, and contact appropriate resources and agencies to respond to family and client needs.

Document assessments and interventions in medical records, using established medical record software, forms, and documentation practices.

Plan, develop, and coordinate client care with hospitals, medical providers, schools, and social services agencies to ensure necessary services are accessible.

Participate in response teams to prevent, minimize, and contain adverse health events and conditions resulting from communicable diseases, food-, water-, and vector-borne outbreaks, chronic diseases, environmental hazards, injuries, and health disparities.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in nursing or graduation from an accredited school of nursing and 2 years of professional nursing experience. Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse as issued by the State Board of Nursing. Preferred candidates will also have experience with maternal child health and/or infectious disease nursing practices, knowledge of public health programs, current nursing principles and practices, and nursing process, and knowledge of public health nursing laws, education, and administration.
