Job Description
We are seeking a Tax Examining Clerk to join our team in Collection Operations. As a Tax Examining Clerk, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate processing of tax returns and enforcement of tax laws. Your duties will include examining original documents for completeness, coding and perfecting tax returns, and maintaining suspense/closed files.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews taxpayer information to determine action and processing requirements.
- Examines original/other documents for completeness.
- Codes and prefects tax return/documents; receives, records, sorts, batches, associates, controls, stages, collects, mails, extracts, and distributes incoming/outgoing work.
- Maintains updates, purges suspense/closed files; examines and perfects documents; determines header data and numbers returns/documents.
- Performs a variety of clerical and procedural tasks using an automated tax system which involves: assigning, maintaining, monitoring or updating work status and inventory records; ordering research; acknowledging correspondence; and performing other support activity.
To qualify for this position, you must have 1 year of general experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service. General experience for this position includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
