Urban Planning and Community Development Leader

Job Summary:
We are seeking a visionary leader to guide the Department of Urban Planning and Community Development. The successful candidate will have a distinguished scholarship and leadership record, with experience in department management or similar leadership roles. They will be responsible for fostering research and teaching that address climate resilience and promote just communities.
About the Role:
This is a tenure-track position that requires an earned doctorate in urban planning or a professional planning degree. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in mentoring faculty at all career levels and supporting their research and development. They will also be expected to engage with the campus community and foster collegial relationships with external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
• Visionary Leadership: Guide the department's strategic direction, fostering research and teaching that address climate resilience and promote just communities.
• Program Development: Lead efforts to expand the department's research, partnerships, and degree offerings, ensuring alignment with emerging challenges such as environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation, and inclusive community development.
• Teaching and Research: Maintain a research agenda in urban planning, community development, and climate-related fields, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses and advise students.
• Mentorship and Faculty Development: Demonstrate excellence in mentoring faculty at all career levels and support their research and development, building strong relationships within and beyond the academic environment.
• Collaboration and Outreach: Engage with the campus community and foster collegial relationships with external stakeholders, including local and national APA, community organizations, local businesses, and governmental agencies.
What We Offer:
UMass Boston offers a competitive salary, with an estimated range of $120,000 - $150,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
