Administrative Assistant Role in the Department of Agriculture

This is a full-time, term appointment not to exceed 13 months with the possibility of extension up to 4 years. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of administrative tasks, including budgeting, procurement, data processing, property management, time and attendance tracking, personnel support, and program record-keeping.

About the Job
  • Perform various administrative duties, including but not limited to:
  • Tracking financial expenditures for the work unit
  • Participating in the development of financial and budgetary data for preparation and presentation of budgets
  • Serving as timekeeper for Time and Attendance processing, in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures
  • Preparing or providing guidance on domestic and foreign travel authorizations and vouchers for the work unit
  • Coordinating the work unit's procurement activity for services, equipment, and supplies within delegated micro-purchase authority
  • Assisting with recruitment by initiating SF-52s, Requests for Personnel Actions, required for the office/program unit in accordance with established procedures
  • Maintaining individual files on vehicles annotating scheduled and completed maintenance, receipts from service, mileage logs, etc.
  • Maintaining and managing administrative and program files in accordance with Federal records management policies, procedures, schedules, and guidelines
  • Serving as office/program unit receptionist
Requirements
  • You must be a U.S. citizen or national
  • Individuals born male after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System or exempt
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
  • Direct Deposit: All federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution
  • Successful completion of one-year trial period
  • Valid state driver's license required at the time of application
  • All USDA employees are required to be enrolled in Continuous Vetting, which authorizes government agencies to receive notifications of criminal activity on individuals who hold low-risk, public trust, or national security positions
  • Extended travel or temporary duty may be required, involving irregular working hours, including overtime
Qualifications
  • Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education
  • For the GS-06 level, applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 level) that demonstrates:
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and managing files
  • Experience responding to public correspondence via phone, email, fax, and distribution of mail
  • Experience with safekeeping of personnel records, such as awards and performance reports
  • Experience with Time and Attendance processing and the use of travel systems

**Salary:** $45,412 - $59,038 per year
