Job Summary

The Assistant Head Facilities Serviceperson is responsible for performing semi-skilled work under the direction of the Head Facilities Serviceperson to maintain the cleanliness, orderliness, and safe condition of facilities. This role involves operating various mechanical systems, supervising and participating in the cleaning program, and ensuring the proper use of supplies and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review work performed by Facilities Serviceperson and other employees assigned to the shift.
  • Instruct subordinate personnel in the proper use of supplies, equipment, chemicals, ladders, and safety procedures.
  • Perform the duties of Facilities Serviceperson.
  • Activate, monitor, adjust, and turn off boilers, air conditioning equipment, power sources, etc.
  • Verify the security of the school prior to departure.
  • Inform supervisor of needed supplies and recognize building equipment, mechanical equipment, and structural problems that require servicing or maintenance.
  • Perform the duties of the Head Facilities Serviceperson for vacation and other non-extended periods of time.
  • Practice safety continuously and ensure that a safe working area exists.
  • Participate in training programs to increase skill and proficiency related to assignments.
  • Complete all projects in a competent manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.
  • Perform all duties that require extensive physical effort, such as climbing, lifting, pulling, etc.
  • Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties required by the principal/administrator or designee.

Requirements

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • Three (3) years of industrial, commercial, or educational facility experience.
  • Ability to follow standard custodial practices, act as Head Custodian in absence, plan and direct work of others, prepare work programs and schedules, and understand and practice energy conservation.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, operate heavy-duty floor scrubbing and rug shampooing equipment, and assume responsibility and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills preferred.

Work Environment

The Assistant Head Facilities Serviceperson will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interactions with employees within the department. The role requires the ability to communicate effectively, work independently, and make decisions in a timely manner.

Physical Requirements

The Assistant Head Facilities Serviceperson will be required to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment

The Assistant Head Facilities Serviceperson will be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. The length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
