Job Title: Legal Counsel II

ConsultENERGY is seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel II to provide legal support for our business teams in connection with the development, construction, and operation of wind, solar, and battery storage renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice on renewable energy project procurement, construction, and operations across various technologies.
  • Draft and negotiate procurement and construction contracts, including turbine supply agreements, balance of plant agreements, and EPC(I) & turnkey contracts.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions for the purchase of non-project-based goods and services.
  • Support HSE, R&D, IP, IT, and insurance matters.
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the organization and develop strategies to avoid litigation and reduce risk areas.
  • Collaborate with various business stakeholders, including Procurement, Pre-Construction, Project Execution, Tax, Credit, Accounting, and Insurance.
  • Provide project-specific legal support to Project Execution teams and project managers.
  • Manage external legal counsel retained for specialized practice areas.
  • Maintain and update contract templates and other commonly requested legal forms.
Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an accredited university is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong experience working on complex construction projects and/or related procurement in a law firm or a company.
  • Licensed, or the ability to become licensed, to practice law in Illinois or New York.
  • Legal knowledge and experience in construction work and renewable energy is highly preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical, solution-oriented focus on legal issues, with a view to finding viable business solutions.
  • Outstanding commercial, technical, and strategic understanding.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the company and the renewables space.
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables.
  • Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team.
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Responds well to direction, is coachable, and easy to develop.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong business acumen and a sound understanding of business concepts.
