School Health Specialist

Join Mesa Public Schools as a dedicated School Nurse, playing a vital role in enhancing the educational process and promoting the health and well-being of our students.
About the Role:The School Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality healthcare services to students, staff, and families. This includes conducting health screenings, administering medications, and coordinating health services information among home, school, and community agencies.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement health programs in coordination with administrators, focusing on disease prevention and promotion of student health.
- Conduct student health screenings to assess physical, mental, and emotional health.
- Administer medications to students according to district policies and procedures.
- Coordinate health services information among home, school, private physician, clinic, and other community agencies.
- Assist teachers in planning health curriculum by providing resource materials and presenting demonstrations in the classroom.
- Interpret and alert staff to school health laws, health trends, and school health problems.
- Utilize assessment skills to plan and provide care for ill and injured students and staff.
- Develop nursing care plans for special needs students.
- Assist parent/guardian with health-related referral resources.
- Collect social/developmental history information for student evaluations and participate in Medicaid billing when appropriate.
- Provide health counseling for students to encourage and maintain optimum health practices.
- Function as a member of the school child abuse team and other district intervention teams as directed by the site administrator.
- Maintain accurate health documentation and continuous required health records.
- Compile accurate yearly reports to document student encounters and nursing activities.
- Maintain professional growth through continuing education and support of professional organizations.
- Supervise health assistants while on site.
- Implement state and district guidelines for control of communicable disease, including state rules for immunization compliance.
- Adhere to all Professional Standards set forth by Mesa Public Schools and the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
- Valid Arizona Registered Nurse License.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in nursing, which has included public health nursing, theory, and practice.
- Current IVP Fingerprint Card.
- Experience in school nursing or public health nursing is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents.
