Job Title: Steward - Food Services

Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation, a renowned provider of exceptional services, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Steward to join our team at McMurdo Station. As a Steward, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of food service and sanitation in our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional service, as outlined by the Steward Coordinator and Lead Dining Attendants.
  • Perform daily tasks efficiently and thoroughly, as instructed by the Dining Attendant, Lead.
  • Ensure all aspects of safety and sanitation in the kitchen, dining, and service areas, including proper equipment usage and safety procedures.
  • Stock and replenish ancillary food items and non-food items, as detailed by the tasking sheet, during and between meal hours.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, etc., and operate relevant machinery, monitoring water temperature and chemical levels to ensure a sanitary wash cycle.
  • Prepare and chill sufficient beverages and frozen dessert mixes to support community usage.
  • Maintain clean and organized service, dining, and work areas.
  • Select and present food items during meal times and store leftovers appropriately.
  • Follow proper thawing procedures for frozen items.
  • Label and date leftover food, prepared beverages, and frozen dessert mixes properly.
  • Discard food waste and non-food waste in a timely manner, adhering to approved waste management guidelines.
  • Monitor coffee and beverage consumption and replenish as needed.
  • Coordinate with Cooks to ensure timely transfer and scraping of dirty pots to the pot-washing area and other duties as required.
  • Prepare and distribute bagged lunches for departing field parties and flight crews as directed by the Dining Attendant, Lead.
  • Meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting and moving up to the safety regulation maximum in a safe manner and performing repetitive motion, standing for up to 9 hours daily, and working on hands and knees.
  • Support the achievement of ASC metrics, whether directly or indirectly affected by this position's work activities.
  • Comply with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals, providing documentation as necessary.
  • Work towards achieving ASC goals and contractual commitments.
  • Be prepared to work on a night shift and adapt to variable dayshift work hours with minimal notice.
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and tasking responsibilities in food services and janitorial duties.
  • Attend scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement to the attention of the Steward Coordinator or Lead Dining Attendants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the manager-on-duty.
Requirements:
  • High school education or GED.
Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements:
  • Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Valid U.S. Passport.
Experience:
  • Minimum of six months related experience required.
