Job Summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a skilled Social Worker I to provide professional social work services to adult patients and families. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in Social Work and experience working with oncology patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide distress screening, mental health screening, and substance use disorder screening to identify psychological/psychiatric conditions that need to be addressed within the context of care planning.
  • Offer emotional support through brief therapy, individual and family counseling, grief and loss counseling, and crisis intervention.
  • Collaborate with medical teams to address psychological, social, and emotional issues, mental health conditions, substance-related conditions, and considerations for care/treatment planning.
  • Refer patients to internal services, local and regional support networks, and tangible needs resources.
  • Conduct patient navigation activities as needed.
  • Coordinate with in-patient social workers to facilitate transition between in-patient, out-patient, and home care.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited graduate school of social work.
  • WA State Department of Health registration/certification/licensure.
  • Experience with counseling individuals and families required.
  • Strong assessment and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients/families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Skills in screening for distress and mental health conditions, including substance use disorders.
  • Experience working with oncology patients and family members/significant others and working effectively with multidisciplinary teams preferred.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training.
  • Brief interventions training.
  • Motivational interviewing training.
  • Grief and loss training.
  • Bilingual.
