Nurse Specialist Geriatric Care

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at UMass Memorial Health, providing exceptional care to patients in our Geri Medical Psych Unit. This is a 24-32 hour flexible shift position with evenings.
About the Role
This Registered Nurse role involves planning, delivering, and managing direct patient care using the nursing process and adhering to standards of nursing practice within the unit or clinical area.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process for the delivery and management of patient's care, maintaining an assignment of patients and caseload according to unit guidelines and established standards of practice.
- Provide positive customer service skills when communicating with patients and their families, utilizing clinical reasoning and critical thinking to make informed decisions.
- Implement interventions consistent with hospital standards of practice and prescribed medical plan of care, documenting the patient assessment, plan of care, and response to intervention.
- Maintain competency in management of clinical emergencies, navigating through critical elements of the patient medical record software and HealthAlliance Intranet.
- Demonstrate essential knowledge of pharmacology/medications in administering drugs and monitoring the patient's response.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective quality patient care, working weekends, holidays, and off-shifts as required by unit staffing needs.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Possess and apply the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging process, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
- Ability to provide care for a designated group of patients according to the unit guidelines and hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Ability to lead, guide, and motivate staff, read, write, and speak clearly in English.
