Job Overview

The Equipment Operator plays a crucial role in the waste management sector, specifically focusing on the operation of various machinery. This includes, but is not limited to, paper balers, front-end loaders, bobcats, and forklifts. The primary responsibility is to efficiently transport and bind paper or loose materials, facilitating their handling and ensuring safe loading or unloading into trailers or railcars.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday

Working Hours: 6:00 am - 8:00 pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate machinery safely, adhering to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations as well as company policies.
  • Implement safe driving practices during the transportation, loading, and unloading of materials.
  • Stack baled materials securely to prevent hazards to personnel and equipment.
  • Organize and secure stored materials in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment, completing necessary documentation.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on machinery, including lubrication, fueling, and cleaning.
  • Monitor recycling processes for any signs of unacceptable materials.
  • Weigh, tag, log, and prepare baled materials for transportation.
  • Engage professionally with both internal and external customers.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment throughout the workday.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Completion of Small Equipment Training.
  • Successful completion of written and operational tests to obtain licensing for forklift and bobcat operation.
  • Physical capability to meet job demands, including prolonged exertion, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Proficient maneuvering of equipment in tight spaces and high-traffic areas.
  • Ability to work in various plant conditions, including exposure to weather elements.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for effective interaction with customers.
  • Proficiency in reading and speaking English to ensure clear communication and understanding of safety protocols.

Working Conditions:

  • Potential exposure to high traffic conditions and tight driving areas.
  • Interaction with residential and commercial waste.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, if applicable.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment testing.
  • Ability to read and speak English proficiently.
