Job Summary: As a Veterinary Care Specialist at Banfield Pet Hospital, you will provide high-quality preventative care, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and injuries in pets. Your expertise will ensure the safety of pets, clients, and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques and maintaining clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional service: Prescribe and administer preventative care for the wellness needs of pets, diagnose and treat diseases and injuries, and effectively communicate diagnosis and treatment plans to the veterinary medical team and clients.
  • Ensure compliance: Maintain proper and complete medical records, follow local, state, and federal laws, and ensure the proper maintenance of the controlled substance inventory log.
  • Develop skills: Understand and follow state guidelines regarding duties of veterinary assistants and licensed veterinary technicians, and perform other job duties as assigned.

    • Ability to multi-task and communicate effectively, proven ability to perform basic surgeries, and satisfactory mathematical, problem-solving, and client service skills.

  • Initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, and independence, tolerance for stress, and resiliency.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to be confident around pets, client needs and work volume may often require more than 40 hours per week, and requires sufficient ambulatory skills, ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and manipulate up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, finger-hand-arm dexterity, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.

Education and/or Training:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required, license in good standing with the applicable state veterinary board, and license with the Drug Enforcement Agency required.
