Surgical Technologist Level II

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist Level II to join our team in Fontana, California.
Job Summary:
The Surgical Technologist Level II will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician, providing exceptional patient care during surgical procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in surgical procedures as a member of the surgical team, passing instruments and supplies as directed.
- Assist in tissue retraction and limb support, ensuring patient safety at all times.
- Ensure instruments are clean and working properly, requesting additional supplies as needed.
- Assist the surgeon during closing, suturing, stapling, cauterizing, and bandaging the patient.
- Transport patients and assist with lifting patients for procedures.
- Assemble surgical specialty beds with correct attachments to ensure patient safety.
- Complete necessary arrangements to set up the operating room prior to surgical procedures.
- Verify package integrity and external sterile indicators prior to opening and internal sterile indicators prior to use of supplies and instruments.
- Handle controlled and non-controlled medications, preparing and labeling medication for use during surgery.
- Coordinate with vendors, surgeons, and other departments to ensure operational readiness of instruments and equipment.
- Maintain sterility of the surgical field, containing used sharps in designated containers and replacing as necessary.
- Prepare and handle patient specimens, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
- Comply with Standard Precautions and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Provide guidance to physician assistants, medical students, registered nurses, and other team members on the use of equipment.
- Perform patient care functions such as patient prepping, positioning, and holding patients during surgical cases.
- Assist team members with gowning and gloving, and help in a Circulator role and Anesthesia Tech role.
- Clean the operating room after surgical procedures, removing and disposing of contaminated instruments and disassembling instruments for sterilization.
Requirements:
- Two (2) years of Operating Room scrub experience or military equivalent experience within the last three (3) years and competency scrubbing for a variety of surgical procedures.
- National Center for Competency Testing Certificate - Technologist in Surgery from National Center for Competency Testing OR Surgical Technologist Certificate from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
- Basic Life Support certification.
