We are seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel to join our team. The successful candidate will provide significant support to our Legal Team and organization, serving as an employment law expert for our legal, Human Resources, and business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations and apply them to Adtalem Global Education, Inc. and its institutions.
  • Review and draft employment-related policies and procedures to support organizational goals, manage risk, and provide guidance on periodic updates.
  • Provide legal counsel and guidance to five Title IV institutions located in the United States and the Caribbean.
  • Establish positive relationships and work collaboratively with others to achieve desired objectives across Adtalem's multiple entities.
  • Advise Human Resources, key functional partners, and business clients on employment law compliance issues (e.g., Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA).
  • Partner with Human Resources and assist with the preparation of the organization's response to agency charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other state agencies.
  • Review and draft employment-related agreements, such as independent contractor agreements, separation agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, and other corporate contracts.
  • Assist with training on labor and employment compliance.
  • Conduct research as needed to provide relevant advice to stakeholders.
  • Proactively monitor legislation, regulations, and emerging trends in labor and employment law and in the higher ed industry.
  • Support and assist with internal employee investigations.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school required.
  • 5+ years prior experience as an attorney practicing in a law firm or corporate in-house legal experience required.
  • Litigation experience preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to quickly assess potential for risk and opportunity.
  • Exemplary analytical and interpretation skills, strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with clients at all levels of the organization, including senior management.
  • Must be able to exercise sound judgment and work independently and efficiently under time pressures and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Possesses strong work ethic and customer service orientation and ability to prioritize conflicting demands from multiple business clients.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is between $100,171.61 and $181,034.70, depending on factors such as experience, location, and qualifications.
