Job Description

Job Title: Before and/or After School Program Group Leader

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and mission-driven Group Leader to join our team at the Metro YMCA of the Oranges. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Site Supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the School Age Before and/or After Care program site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision: Ensure the safety of all children assigned to your group by following the supervision standards in the Code of Conduct and Licensing Requirements.
  • Program Implementation: Lead and support the implementation of program activities, including running or participating in CATCH, Healthy U, helping with snack, and providing homework support as assigned.
  • First Aid and Emergency Situations: Follow YMCA protocols for dealing with First-Aid and emergency situations, and participate in monthly safety drills.
  • Group Management: Use positive group management techniques, anticipate and deal with behavior problems in accordance with YMCA's Discipline and Expulsion Policy.
  • Communication: Build professional relationships with children, their families, and school personnel, and represent the YMCA in a positive manner in all interactions.
  • Environment Maintenance: Maintain a clean and sanitary program environment by ensuring supplies, equipment, and tables are cleaned before and after snack or activities.
  • Special Events: Promote Y Programs and Camps to families, and assist with planning and implementation of special events, including the Annual Campaign.
  • Training and Certifications: Attend all YMCA training and meetings as requested, and maintain certifications necessary for the position throughout the program.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma, college credits/degree in Education preferred.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience leading group activities.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate with all levels, problem-solving, and initiative-taking.
  • Certifications: First-Aid, CPR, and AED certification may be required.

Working Conditions: Must be capable of being on your feet for long periods, actively supervising children in various indoor and outdoor environments, and lifting 30 pounds.
