Job Summary

As a key member of our engineering team, the Principal Mass Properties Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the overall aircraft weight control plan. This role requires a strong understanding of mass properties, weight estimation, and structural analysis, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership: Direct the analysis and management of mass properties (weight, center of gravity, inertia) for complex aerospace systems.
  2. Teaming: Collaborate with internal and external design and production engineering teams and suppliers to optimize structures, systems, and components for weight efficiency.
  3. Standardization: Develop, establish, and implement mass properties estimation methods and SAWE best practices.
  4. Communication: Conduct weight control and tracking throughout the design and development phases, providing dashboards to guide the engineering team and program leadership.
  5. Support: Work closely with the Loads & Dynamics Group to develop inertia data needed for technical analysis. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to mass properties.
  6. Collaboration: Work with the Loads & Dynamics and Stability & Control Groups to develop the center of gravity envelope.
  7. Risk Management: Anticipate, collect, manage, and mitigate or implement weight risk and opportunities.
  8. Influence: Proactively participate in trade studies to help guide the team on weight-efficient solutions.
  9. Validate: Coordinate with manufacturing and assembly teams to influence and confirm mass properties through testing and evaluation.
Qualifications

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Principal Mass Properties Engineer with a minimum of 13 years in aerospace engineering, including at least 10 years in a leadership role focused on managing aircraft mass properties from conceptual design through program development gates. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mass properties software tools, excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
