Healthcare Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with Patient Care: Assist RNs with daily patient care activities, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation. Use therapeutic assistive devices as needed.
- Document Patient Data: Measure and document patient data, including blood pressures, TPRs, I & O, daily weights, and other requested data. Accurately document in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Purposeful Rounding: Perform purposeful rounding under the direction of RNs and promptly communicate observations, concerns, and needs to RNs. Document appropriately.
- Admission, Transfer, and Discharge: Participate in the admission, transfer, and discharge process under the supervision of RNs. Ensure patient call lights are always within reach and answer call-lights promptly.
- Specimen Collection and Testing: Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens and perform point-of-care testing as indicated. Maintain competency as required.
- Errands and Stock Management: Complete various errands as directed, including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports. Maintain and order stock for the nursing area. Clean equipment and work areas.
- Patient Positioning and Transport: Perform patient positioning and transporting duties, including lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique and assistive devices.
- Skin Integrity and Special Supplies: Perform tasks related to maintaining skin integrity, including proper repositioning and skin care. Ensure special patient supplies and appliances are provided and maintained.
- Additional Responsibilities: May be required to remove IVs, provide post-mortem care, and bladder scans under the direction of RNs and as determined by site/unit requirements.
- Infection Prevention: Practice within policies and procedures of infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures.
- Licensure and Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 45 days. Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices.
- Education: Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
- Experience: None required.
- Basic Computer Skills: Basic computer skills are required.
- Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities are required.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
- Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Pushing and Pulling: Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Visual and Auditory Requirements: Must have functional vision and hearing.
- Work Environment: Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids on a continuous basis. Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
