About the Role

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Archaeological Manager 1 (Principal Investigator) to join our team. As a key member of our cultural resources management group, you will be responsible for providing expertise in the southwestern United States, including Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Direct and manage GAI personnel and sub-consultants on cultural resources investigations, records reviews, archival research, ethnographic research, field surveys, testing, report writing, agency and Tribal consultations, and archaeological data recoveries.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide internal staff, sub-consultants, and clients with timely and proactive guidance on complex cultural resource issues related to technical expertise.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assist the director with developing solutions to regulatory situations related to National Historic Preservation Act compliance (Section 106 and Section 110).
  • Project Planning: Identify and communicate potential project constraints during project planning phases.
  • Client and Agency Interface: Serve as a primary interface between GAI and regulatory agencies, State Historic Preservation Offices, Federal/State Land Managers, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and Tribal interests.
  • Team Integration: Assist the director and project manager with the successful integration of GAI's cultural resource staff and sub-consultants into both internal and external project teams.
  • Proposal Development: Work directly with the director, project managers, and other project team members to develop proposals, maintain controls on budgets, scopes, and schedules.
  • Travel and Flexibility: Be willing and able to travel to varied project locations (including extended and overnight stays) up to 50% of the time, or as project/client needs dictate.
  • Professional Development: Develop and present technical papers at least twice a year (one state and one regional/national presentation) at conferences or in journals and maintain current knowledge in technical areas.
  • Marketing and Business Development: Work with other GAI departments and staff to develop and implement short- and long-term marketing plans to grow the cultural resources group and support GAI's overall business goals.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree in archaeology or a related field, and a minimum of 12 years of relevant and broad experience in the cultural resource management and consulting field.
  • Certifications: Must be listed in the Register of Professional Archaeologists, hold or obtain at least two principal investigator permits at the state and federal levels, and be a Registered Professional Archaeologist.
  • Skills: Advanced understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act and National Environmental Policy Act, solid understanding of artifacts and soils, writing reports of archaeological investigations, and synthesizing data.
  • Leadership and Communication: Possess effective oral and written communication skills, leadership skills with direct supervisory experience, and ability to multi-task and prioritize work for oneself, GAI staff, and sub-consultants.
