Ceramic Arts Faculty Position at the College for Creative Studies

We are seeking a talented and experienced Ceramic Arts faculty member to join our team at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Michigan. As an Assistant Professor of Ceramics, you will be responsible for teaching three courses per semester, maintaining a superior pedagogy in ceramics discipline, and contributing to the development of new curriculum and program opportunities.

The Studio Art and Craft department at CCS is a dynamic multi-disciplinary art and design program that combines traditional making with contemporary processes and technologies. Our core areas include Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Print media, Digital Media, Installation, Performance, Ceramics, Glass, Digital Fabrication, Fibers/Textiles, and Metalsmithing /Jewelry.

About the Role:
As an Assistant Professor of Ceramics, you will oversee the Ceramic area, maintain all classrooms and equipment, manage materials and supplies, and work closely with work-study students and the SAC Department Technician. You will also search, hire, and evaluate adjunct faculty as needed in the Ceramics area.
Qualifications and Experience:
We are looking for candidates with an MFA in Ceramics and a minimum of two-three years of teaching experience in higher education. You should be qualified to teach a range of Ceramic processes, including wheel throwing, mold making, glaze formulation, kiln firing, slip casting, and hand-building. A firm grounding in the history and traditions of Ceramics from a global perspective, along with contemporary and experimental practices, is preferred. Experience teaching upper-level multi-disciplinary critique-based courses and collaborative teaching is a plus.
Benefits and Salary:
This full-time position offers a competitive salary of $$80,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
