Job Title: Supervisor, T&D Operations

Join our team as a Supervisor, T&D Operations at Hawaiian Electric Company. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Transmission and Distribution Operations team.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and directing the activities of the division's work group to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective completion of construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and direct the activities of the work group to ensure compliance with safety protocols and company policies.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct meetings to foster communication between various levels of the workforce and maintain, increase, and/or improve workforce knowledge and skills.
  • Manage performance of employees, train, and develop personnel towards an effective and skilled workforce.
  • Analyze work packages to establish and coordinate project requirements, work with crew leaders to pre-check, schedule, make appropriate contacts, hold-offs, arrange for tools and equipment, and work with customers, internal and external, to satisfy expectations.
  • Resolve customer issues and build constructive relationships.
  • Assist in the planning, initiation, direction, and monitoring of all divisional activities and programs to ensure that company/department goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Participate in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of the construction, installation, and maintenance standards and practices of overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems.
  • Good working knowledge of planning/scheduling/estimating concepts and principles.
  • Working knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement; Accident Prevention Manual; General Information Manual, etc.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, database management, etc.).
  • Supervisory/leadership skills including effective written, oral, and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the ability to work with a variety of individuals; and the willingness and ability to train.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for State of Hawaii driver's license and HECO driver's license in order to travel to various field sites to inspect and monitor operations.
  • Must be willing and able to be transported by helicopters.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Crew leader qualified and/or held leadership roles in the construction, installation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities.
  • Multiple (5-7) years of field experience in the construction, installation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities.
  • OR
  • Extensive (7+) years of design experience in the construction, installation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities.
