Psychiatric Technician

We are seeking a skilled Psychiatric Technician to join our team at Danbury Health Systems. As a Psychiatric Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to individuals with mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, prioritizing assignments and providing patient education related to the scope of practice.
- Perform procedures as identified by the PT Skills Checklist, referring to and utilizing appropriate resources, and responding promptly to patient care needs.
- Maintain a safe patient environment, incorporating Norwalk Hospital Policies and Procedures, and showing initiative in noting and offering assistance with unit needs.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and coworkers, taking into consideration issues related to mental status, and observing and reporting to the Registered Nurse information about assigned patients.
- Document accurately patient data on appropriate paper forms and in the electronic medical record, and obtain information necessary to carry out patient care assignments.
- Lead or co-lead groups, providing information and instruction on constructive behaviors and the importance of participating in the milieu, and documenting patient participation in group activities.
- Assure that patients are aware of their rights, and identify the learning needs of patients and families, documenting this information and providing education on constructive behaviors.
- Perform other duties as assigned, and fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology preferred, but will consider Associate's degree in Psychology, Human Services, or related field of study, or CNA with work experience with psychiatric population.
- One year of related experience.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt to an ever-changing environment.
This role is located at Norwalk-34 Maple St, and the work schedule is Day/Eve 8, with rotating shifts and every other weekend.
