Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our residents. Your primary responsibilities will include acting as a courier between the Pharmacy Department and Nursing Units, delivering medication, supplies, and devices, and picking up orders. You will also be responsible for filling medication orders/reorders for residents, refilling medication supply from a fill list audited by a pharmacist for accuracy, and performing proper charges and credits for medications, supplies, and devices. Additionally, you will restock, organize, and inventory medications and supplies throughout the facility, ensure medications are stored properly, and check expiration dates. You will also enter medication orders and resident information to update the resident medication profile computer database, enter all required information for new admissions, prepare and package medication, maintain a log for repackaging medications, and maintain STAT box, emergency box, and IV start box medications. Furthermore, you will place orders with wholesalers and manufacturers, process items received to assure correct product, quantity, price, proper storage, and check expiration date, and return to wholesalers or manufacturers all recalled, out of date, or overstocked medications. You will also maintain records of medications and supplies borrowed or loaned and keep accounts current, review, sort, and file a variety of materials, including confidential information, maintain departmental records, files, notebooks, and references, handle departmental mail and correspondence, greet visitors and receive incoming telephone calls, screening them and making appropriate referrals to staff or departments, and perform other duties as may be assigned that are within the Pharmacy department's mission and as situations warrant in meeting the overall needs of the facility. Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent, Virginia Pharmacy Technician registration is required. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is a plus, and long-term care experience is a plus. Working Conditions: This position requires working in a fast-paced environment, interacting with residents, staff, and visitors, and maintaining confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information. The selected candidate must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, and two TB Skin Tests are required. Salaries for current state employees will be determined according to the current state compensation plan.
