Job Summary

The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is seeking a highly skilled Administrative Specialist to join our team in the Appeals Division. As an Administrative Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that language access requests and disability access accommodations are properly fulfilled in a timely and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the DMAS Civil Rights Coordinator and Compliance Specialist to monitor, track, and organize language access requests and disability access accommodations.
  • Request translations in other languages, handle alternative format requests, and arrange for interpreters as needed.
  • Oversee the fulfillment of requests to ensure they are completed in a timely manner, are of high quality, and comply with legal requirements.
  • Document costs to project usage for the upcoming fiscal year.
  • Provide excellent customer service, treating all individuals with respect and dignity, and ensure every appellant receives full due process.
  • Support a collaborative and positive work environment and produce a quality work product.
Requirements
  • Experience applying knowledge of programs, operations, and administrative policies and procedures in a setting such as a law office, court system, or government agency.
  • Considerable experience with technology, including Microsoft Office, for managing language access requests and disability access accommodations.
  • Considerable experience planning and coordinating administrative and support services.
  • Considerable experience gathering facts, analyzing findings, reaching logical conclusions, and recommending solutions to enhance program efficiency and compliance.
  • Considerable experience with specialized software for tracking and documenting language access and disability accommodation requests, as well as managing costs and projecting future usage.
  • Experience with interpretation and application of federal, state laws/regulations.
  • Experience in managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with internal/external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with work in public health, public or business administration, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience with Medicaid (Title XIX of the Social Security Act) and the Children's Health Insurance Program (Title XXI of the Social Security Act).
