Reliability Specialist for Space Systems

Achieve high reliability space systems as a specialist in this role at SpaceX.
Key Responsibilities:- Reliability Engineering: Translate subsystem/component reliability requirements into performance metrics with testable targets.
- Develop reliability prediction models and evaluate product functional performance over mission life conditions to generate MTFF predictions at subsystems and system levels.
- Implement accelerated tests to mitigate risks and qualify designs using a Physics-of-Failure based approach.
- Apply Design of Experiments (DOE) methods to develop test plans to ensure product robustness and performance.
- Lead reliability test planning, methodology, and execution.
- Drive analysis processes for all failures discovered during reliability testing.
- Makes Reliability assessments of component/subsystem designs and influence manufacture/technology selections to ensure mission life reliability targets achieved.
- Master's degree in Reliability Engineering or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in design for high-reliability space systems.
- Experience in reliability modelling methods to predict product life and statistical techniques to analyze test data.
- Excellent understanding of accelerated testing methods, governing equations, and physics of failure for different failure mechanisms.
- Experience facilitating FMEAs and leading cross-functional teams in reliability analysis, prediction, and correlation.
- Working knowledge of coding language, preferable Python.
- Adept in developing and analyzing reliability statistics, including Weibull Analysis.
- Accomplished with PCB Design Analysis capability (Sherlock or alternative).
- Highly capable in probabilistic modeling techniques, including Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Block Diagram analysis (RBD), Determination of MTFF, Single Event Upset/Multiple Bit Upset (SEU/MBU) analysis, and Monte Carlo simulations for material, process, manufacturing, environment, usage variations.
- Experienced with life testing methods (HALT/HASS, ESS, ALT, RGT).
- Areas of specialty interest for 'Design for Reliability' include Avionics electronics, Interconnects, RF systems, Mechanisms, Space Tribology, Power Systems (Batteries, Solar Arrays), and Thermal Management.
