Job Summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a highly skilled Coastal Engineer/Scientist to join our Costa Mesa office. As part of the Coastal Group, this individual will plan and design for wetland restoration, beach nourishment, and living shorelines, as well as conduct coastal resilience and flood vulnerability studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare engineering designs by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, wave data, and oceanographic conditions data.
  • Create feasibility studies by analyzing engineering designs, performing numerical modeling studies, conducting coastal hazard assessment studies, and assembling data.
  • Develop construction specifications, plans, and schedules to produce engineering documents.
  • Support ongoing Coastal / Water practice through contacts and business development efforts with EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, NOAA, Local Environmental agencies, and private sector clients.
  • Implement scientific and regulatory tasks for projects to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Conduct field work, including installation and retrieval of devices measuring tides, currents, water quality, and waves.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Coastal/Ocean Engineering.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in California or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 24 months of hire.
  • Software skills, including coastal modeling software and Matlab.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • Availability and willingness to travel, if needed.
  • Background check and E-Verify compliance.
Physical Requirements

Majority of work is office-based. Some site visits may be required, which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
