About the Role:

We are seeking an Intern to join our Thermal and Kinetic Spray Technologies Department at Sandia National Laboratories. As a Materials Scientist Intern, you will be responsible for applying fundamental materials characterization principles and metallurgical process development to spray technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply fundamental materials characterization principles and metallurgical process development to spray technologies.
  • Interact with members of the 1834 team to develop process parameters.
  • Develop Design of Experiments for process parameters.
  • Design hardware for experimental use.
  • Prepare metallographic samples.

Qualifications:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program.
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
