Job Summary

Rimkus Consulting is seeking a skilled Structural Design Engineer - Associate Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and evaluating conventional wood framing, masonry, and concrete structures for new and remedial construction efforts nationwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and review design and field engineering changes during construction to ensure work quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, including working under the guidance of a senior engineer to gather field/design information and perform inspections.
  • Collaborate with licensed professionals in the design, assessment, and/or construction of commercial, residential, and industrial buildings.
  • Provide technical expertise within the field of engineering for projects involving assessments, upgrades, maintenance, and restoration of the built environment.
  • Focus on repair of damage from fire, wind, and impacts to a mix of residential, multi-family, and commercial projects.
  • Coordinate adaptive reuse projects of older buildings and enhancements to existing facilities to accommodate changes in use and implementation of equipment and machinery.
  • Manage multiple projects and coordinate with consultants from other practice areas to produce client reports in a timely manner.

Requirements
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering required.
  • Advanced degree appreciated.
  • E.I.T. preferred, but not required.
  • 0-4+ years of structural design experience.

Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other Building Information Modeling software.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is a must.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and technical writing abilities.
  • Outgoing and able to interact with staff, clients, and building owners.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • High level of analytical skills with attention to detail.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements
  • Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, work from stationary and moveable scaffolding, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch.
  • Periods of overtime will be required.
  • Up to 25% local/regional travel may be required.
