Job Summary

UNITE HERE HEALTH is seeking a highly skilled Senior Benefits Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the compliance of our health plans with legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Update plan documentation and notices for the Las Vegas health plans to support the Fund's compliance with legal requirements.
  • Work with the Fund's Third-Party Administrator on the coordinating, processing, and disposition of workers' compensation claims and cases.
  • Prepare resolutions for Board of Trustee meetings, including describing the proposed change, associated research, data requests, and coordinating input with legal and finance.
  • Lead Trustee Prep meetings, including preparation and distribution of resolutions and amendments to be reviewed.
  • Post all resolutions, amendments, and reports in Better Meetings within established deliverable dates.
  • Prepare Trustee monitoring reports, cost impact reports, and all other reports/documents related to the Board of Trustee meeting for all Las Vegas Plan Units.
  • Prepare drafts of necessary benefit and administrative amendments and associated plan documents promptly.
  • Update all plan documents and communication materials in a manner complying with all federal benefits and benefits-related legislation and regulations.
  • Maintain electronic archives of all plan documents, e.g., plan document, amendments, summaries of material modifications, summary plan descriptions, and summaries of benefits and coverage.
  • Conduct research and evaluation on benefit trends, industry trends, etc., and provide value-added analysis and summary.
  • Communicate benefit plan and policy information to internal teams for all plan units.
  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Provide support for the implementation of new projects, benefits, programs, etc., as needed.
  • Coordinate and facilitate content and editorial review of all ERISA documents and procedures to resolve discrepancies, ambiguities, and obtain the required approvals.
  • Coordinate review and distribution of legally required notices to government entities and participants and, where applicable, coordinate with the Communications Department on finalization to ensure timely distribution.
  • Provide input on opportunities to automate processes/utilize tools/resources.
  • Accurate disposition of workers' compensation claims and cases.
Requirements
  • 5 ~ 7 years of related experience in a(n) employee health benefits administration and compliance-related field or environment minimum.
  • Working knowledge and experience of health insurance, managed healthcare, and legally required communications and documentation.
  • Prior experience working in a Union environment or with Taft Hartley plans.
  • Prior experience preparing Board of Trustee meeting materials.
  • Prior experience updating plan documents, summary plan description, Summary of Benefits & Coverage, and drafting Summary of Material Modifications.
  • Working knowledge in welfare benefits plans as it relates to plan design and administration.
  • Working knowledge of employees benefits the legal environment (ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA).
  • Working knowledge and experience in drafting health plan communications and other documentation.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation process preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or related field or industry-related experience.

UNITE HERE HEALTH offers a competitive salary range of $81,400 - $101,700, actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to: relevant experience, qualifications, expertise, certifications, licenses, education or equivalent work experience, time in role, peer and market data, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
