Job Description

We're seeking an experienced Oncology Imaging Strategy Lead to drive the development of strategic guidance for biomarker imaging on one or more programs and work towards drug development deliverables. As an Oncology Imaging Strategy Lead, you will primarily focus on ensuring that oncology clinical programs use appropriate imaging techniques from preclinical through registration phases of development, which entails directly working with preclinical and development teams within the drug development process.

You will enable preclinical and clinical teams by scouting and incorporating state-of-the-art imaging strategies and suggesting emerging imaging approaches and techniques that will aid the development of new drugs. The Oncology Imaging Strategy Lead strategically and proactively drives the use of imaging biomarkers for decision-making purposes starting from target validation and strives to improve overall excellence in this area.

You will achieve the above by relying on internal resources throughout the organization, in particular in Drug Discovery and Development, and by leveraging external relationships to ensure that clinical imaging activities adhere to regulatory and industry standards and ensure the regulatory acceptance of new imaging biomarker programs.

The Oncology Imaging Strategy Lead will collaborate with Research and Radiology to implement Imaging strategies that support innovative and competitive drug development.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assigned development programs with regard to advising on appropriate use of imaging biomarkers and techniques and on the appropriate implementation in clinical trials (imaging acquisition and analysis techniques) in cooperation with Radiology and external imaging CRO.
  • May participate in the Integrated Program Team (IPT) on behalf of the Sr. Dir. Clinical Imaging and, on request, provides relevant Oncology expertise to GPT when evaluating and developing translation and imaging strategies.
  • Responsible for preclinical imaging experience in oncology drug development (PET, SPECT, CT, bioluminescence, MRI...) working in close collaboration with Research.
  • Responsible for directing the global oncology Radiomics approach across the portfolio by providing expertise and leadership.
  • Acts as thought partner to early research leaders, proactively following early projects prior to D2, and taking an active role from D2 onwards, assembling resources for subsequent imaging activities on the project.
  • Depending on development program nature, participates in or leads motivated and engaged teams while role modeling and fostering effective team behavior to achieve development program goals.
  • In alignment with the overall oncology strategy and Translational Sciences community, identifies new opportunities for collaboration and manages excellent relationships with new and existing partners, both within as well as outside of Bayer, to drive Imaging excellence.
  • Contribute to self-empowered matrix teams in line with Bayer's VACC leadership standards by enabling, empowering, and supporting colleagues in a high-performance environment under a culture of psychological safety.
  • Takes ownership, fosters a culture of ownership in support of the strategy and in line with Bayer's values; empowers others and drives peer accountability across portfolio deliverables and beyond.
  • Evolves TSO's unique value contribution and thereby drives the development of a productive and fulfilled workforce by embracing a culture of creativity and innovation, while ensuring that capabilities are available and actively evolving.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A medical doctor (MD or MD/PhD) or imaging scientist (PhD) trained in radiology, nuclear medicine, imaging physics, or image analysis, including some industry experience, OR a Master's degree trained in radiology, nuclear medicine, imaging physics, or image analysis, including more industry experience, OR a Bachelor's degree trained in radiology, nuclear medicine, imaging physics, or image analysis, including significant industry experience.
  • A proven track record of research and/or development (including oncology applications with emphasis on radiological and/or PET/SPECT imaging and biomarker use).
  • Experience with preclinical imaging in oncology drug development (PET, SPECT, CT, bioluminescence, MRI...).
  • A thorough understanding of imaging and clinical development in oncology, including experience with regulatory framework for biomarkers, and use of imaging for registration of Oncology products. Experience interacting with imaging CROs.
  • An outstanding scientific reputation as evidenced by multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and as a speaker at conferences and strong network in the academic and clinical community of imaging specialties.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (fluency in English, oral and written).
